Paul Nelson is a Grammy winning American guitarist, record producer, and songwriter.〔〔〔〔 He was in the blues rock band of guitarist and singer Johnny Winter.〔〔〔〔 He produced and played on several of Winter's albums, including ''Step Back'', which won the 2015 Grammy Award for Best Blues Album〔〔〔 and debuted at #1 on the ''Billboard'' chart for Blues Albums〔 and Independent Albums,〔 and won the Blues Music Award for Best Rock Blues Album.〔 Nelson was inducted into the New York Blues Hall of Fame〔 and received the Keeping the Blues Alive (KBA) award from the Blues Foundation.〔
==Career==
Paul Nelson is credited as being a composer/performer for music heard on international and national television broadcasts such as NBC, TNN, UPN, for the WWF. His solo guitar work can be heard on the Halifax song "Anthem for Tonight" from their album Inevitability of a Strange World featured on the XBox 360 game "Prey" which was voted one of the Top 10 Video Games of the Year by Time Magazine. The song also appears on the follow-up soundtrack CD which also features the music of Ozzy Ozbourne, BOC, Ted Nugent, Heart, Judas Priest and Edgar Winter. Paul Nelson also produced many albums including 12 albums for Johnny Winters successful Live Bootleg series, the live Through the 70's and the live through the 80's DVD's as well as his live from Rockpalast and live from Japan DVD's.
Nelson was taught by Steve Vai, Mike Stern, and Steve Khan. A protégé of Johnny Winter, he has toured the world and performed live and/or on recordings alongside artists such as Eric Clapton, Leslie West, Larry Carlton, Edgar Winter, Rick Derringer, Joe Perry, Robben Ford, Brian Setzer, Billy Gibbons, Dicky Betts, Susan Tedeschi, Mark Knopfler, Steve Vai, Joe Walsh, Slash, Pat Travers, Kim Simmonds and Savoy Brown, Anders Osborne, Mike Zito, Joe Louis Walker, Samantha Fish, Popa Chubby, Ron Earl, Derek Trucks, Vince Gill, Warren Haynes, Sonny Landreth, Joe Bonamassa, Uptown Horns, Ben Harper, Hubert Sumlin, Harvey Brooks, Bill Evans, James Cotton, Magic Slim, Coco Montoya, Reese Wynans, Edgar Winter, Ray Davis, George Lynch, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Anthony Jackson, Junior Brown, John Medeski, Ron Holloway, Jimmy Vivino of ''Late Night with Conan O'Brien'', Paul Schaffer's CBS Orchestra, and the Blues Brothers Horns. He has appeared on ''David Letterman'' on CBS and ''Jimmy Kimmel'' on ABC televised broadcasts.
Nelson signed with Sony Music Group in 2015 for his self-titled solo work.
